Antonio "Tony" Ramos, Board President

Mr. Antonio "Tony" Ramos was elected to the Garvey School Board of Education in 2009 to a four year term.  Tony is a life long resident of Rosemead and an alumnus of Garvey schools.  He holds two associate degrees from Pasadena City College and graduated from California State University Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems.  Tony's professional experience includes work for a number of municipal governments, including the cities of Los Angeles, San Gabriel and Rosemead. He is currently employed in the Information Systems division at Panda Restaurant Group's Corporate Offices in Rosemead.  Tony is an advocate for children's education and a stalwart proponent for the use of technology to its fullest educational potential.  Tony is a product of the public school system and a staunch believer in the benefits of strong public schools.  His daughter Ariel is also a graduate of Garvey District Schools.

Henry Lo, Board Vice President

Mr. Lo was elected to the Garvey Board of Education in 2003 and re-elected in 2007 and 2011.  A graduate of Colby College in Maine. Henry has worked in public service for the past 12 years and was previously a staffer for State Senator Gloria Romero from 1999 to 2010.  Henry has served as Board liaison to the District's Head Start Policy Committee and was instrumental in initiating and implementing the Garvey Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves the students of the district. Since the Foundation began, it has raised over $40,000 for Garvey District academic and extra curriculum programs.  Henry was also very actively involved in the successful 2004 Bond Q campaign. He is very supportive of community partnerships in education and efforts for student achievement in every school of the Garvey School District.

Bob Bruesch, Board Clerk

Mr. Bruesch was elected as a member of the Garvey Board of Education in 2003 to a two year term and reelected in 2005 and 2009 to a four year term. Before his election to the School Board, Mr. Bruesch was a teacher in the District. A graduate of Whittier College , Mr. Bruesch has been actively involved in the initiation and implementation of the Garvey Education Foundation and has a high interest in developing community partnerships and support from organizations such as the Kiwanis Club. While teaching at several District schools, Bob developed camping and youth clubs for students. Bob was a former member of the Rosemead City Council and also served as Mayor of the city. He was a semifinalist for State Teacher of the Year, inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in 1997, and a Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award winner in 1994. Mr. Bruesch was also awarded the Lewis Hine National Friend of Youth plaque in 2001.

Janet Chin, Board Member

Mrs. Chin was re-elected to the Garvey Board of Education in 2011 to a four year term. She is an advocate of the youth and has founded a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for youth service learning projects.  Janet is a U.S. Army Veteran, former actress and casting director, and has a degree in Business Production/Communications.  Using techniques as a social entrepreneur, she believes that community partnerships, parent involvement, and after school programs are key to whole child success.  Janet has been honored with many service awards, including Los Angeles Bilingual Directors Association Award, Congressional Women of Distinction Award, Parent Volunteer of the Year, and National Defense Medal.  She is an avid volunteer in schools and community libraries and is a Neighborhood Watch Captain. Janet continues to encourage children to "take ownership of their community" and encourage parents to get involved in their child's life-long education. Her children currently attend Garvey District Schools.

John Yuen, Board Member

Mr. Yuen was appointed to the Garvey Board of Education in 2001 to fill a vacancy.  He was elected the same year to a full four- year term and re-elected in 2005 and 2009 to subsequent terms.  Mr. Yuen holds a Masters in Engineering and Management.   He applies his leadership and managements skills  in an upper management position where he supervises approximately 300 subordinates. 

Mr. Yuen’s two children attended schools in the Garvey School District.  He is a proponent of strong academic programs and after-school programs that reinforce student achievement.  He is also a strong believer in teaching moral and ethical behaviors and promoting respect and responsibility from the early years of schooling to the time students become young adults.  He wants all Garvey students to be productive and responsible community members in our society.
