GARVEY STAR NEWS:
A GREAT START TO 2019-2020
Dear Parents & Community Partners,
Garvey has had a great start to the new school year!
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT…Smiling Faces Everywhere!
Thank you for participating in the Back to School Night events. We are pleased to meet you and welcome you to the new school year. A special thanks to our PTA parent and staff leaders who have contributed tremendously to the success of our Back to School Night events. They have certainly played a key role in bringing smiles to many faces with theirs services and creative ideas…selling great food, promoting spirit shirts, getting support for PTA, and even offering free hair-cuts.
Launching a SPACE STATION PROGRAM…Soaring to Higher Heights!
Great news! We are extremely excited to announce a new partnership with two STEM education agencies, Magnitude.io and ISS Above. With this partnership, Garvey schools will have the opportunity to launch a Space Station program at our sites. Our students, using an electronic device that brings the Space Station to the TV, will be able to see live views of Earth from external cameras and discover about the above earth international laboratory. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in exciting projects, such as: 1) ExoLab, a biology experiment in the microgravity environment on the International Space Station, and 2) CanSat that utilizes High Altitude Balloon and High Power Rocket Launch to conduct atmospheric measurement. There will be a special program introduction event on October 2, 2019 at Rice Elementary School. At the event, scientists from Magnitude.io and ISS Above will introduce this Space Station program and our students and staff will join the scientists in launching a high attitude balloon in a “PicoHAB” activity. If you are interested in attending the event, please register online by September 25, 2019 via https://spacestationprogram-gsd.eventbrite.com.
