Growing 21st Century Leaders in a Global Society

Garvey School District serves a richly diverse community covering portions of Monterey Park, Rosemead, and San Gabriel.  The District has eight elementary and two intermediate schools serving approximately 5,000 Preschool through Grade 8 students, with preschool on each elementary school campus.

Leadership development is the heart of the District's vision.  The staff is committed to nurturing and growing leaders who are academically competent and morally driven to advance the global society in the 21st century.

To realize this vision for all students, each so uniquely gifted, the District devotes to building critical academic, social-emotional, technological, and multicultural pathways.  The development of Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity (4C's) through the Common Core State Standards and holistic education invigorates student learning in all disciplines.  Cultivating the "Leader in Me" (7 Habits of Highly Effective People) provides an asset-rich environment for leaders-in-training.  The ever-expanding technology integration, with the support of computer science programs and Maker Space, is transforming the schools into 21st century learning centers.  The Dual Language+ Programs, implemented beginning 2018-19, further promote multilingualism and multiculturalism. Together, these pathways take our student leaders to reach their educational, career, and life goals.

The task is too important and too challenging to be taken alone.  The District is creating impactful synergy by reaching out and strengthening partnerships with parents and the community.  A variety of advisory committees, focus groups, and parent institutes are provided to foster home-school communication and parent empowerment.  Partnerships with business partners and community agencies and the passage of a school bond in 2016 bring in additional fiscal and personnel resources and connect classroom learning with real world application.

With compelling shared vision, whole-child innovative programs, and extensive partnerships, Garvey continues to thrive as a 21st Century learning academy, growing leaders well-equipped to meet the 21st Century challenges.
